Urban Garden aims to reconsider the ways in which smart gardening products can be manufactured sustainably and with greater efficiency in plant growth, in addition to how access and exposure to a garden can prompt environmental stewardship and a healthier lifestyle among city dwellers. This product was inspired by the Seattle Urban Farm Company’s philosophy to empower Washington state citizens with knowledge and skills to build richer relationships with the abundant nature which surrounds them. Urban Garden aims to reflect SUFCo’s values within its design, while offering a simple yet elegant indoor gardening experience that captures the traditional rituals of gardening.
Urban Garden was the precursor to Flora Space, which you can view here.
BACKGROUND RESEARCH
Founded in 2007 by horticultural and agricultural experts Colin McCrate and Brad Halm, the Seattle Urban Farm Company is a gardening and landscape service provider. SUFCo’s core principles center on building environmentally responsible spaces and strengthening communities by sharing resources on sustainable living practices. SUFCo offers a range of workshops, events, and services to assist individuals interested in starting or enhancing their gardening journeys. The brand’s programming allows gardeners to select their preferred level of engagement, from resource provision to on-site support.
Urban Garden is a product positioned as a suitable choice for first-time gardeners who are interested in beginning their gardening journey, but who are tentative to approach traditional gardening as it may demand a greater commitment of time, money, energy and more. By purchasing the product, gardeners will not only have the opportunity to learn about and grow their own produce, but will also have access to SUFCo’s resources to ensure that their garden will thrive.
